CAMP DESCRIPTION

Summer snow training is essential for serious competitors who want to advance their skiing to the next level. The Freestyle America Whistler Camp maximizes the opportunity of summer glacier skiing through coaching focused on each athlete’s own personal goals and imparting a curriculum of technical skiing elements, proper jumping technique, and plenty of mileage training and practice time. Additionally, 2 afternoons of trampoline training at the Whistler Gymnastics will help athletes refine their jumping skills.

CAMP SPECIFICS

Recommended ages for participation are 10 and up for day athletes and 12 and up for boarding athletes. Athletes should be competent skiers, and should have some competitive experience.

Overnight Option includes: Local and airport van transportation from Vancouver airport, coaching, lift tickets, lodging, all breakfasts, lunches, and some evening meals each week. There will be dinners (every other night) scheduled during camp to be out in the village. Dinners out are at the athletes’ own expense.

Training Only Option includes: Coaching, lift tickets, and trampoline.

FLIGHT INFORMATION (Flights are booked and paid for by athletes’ families)

For overnight campers wanting to travel with the coaches:

Call Winter Park Travel. (800) 325-2748

These non-stop flights are from Montreal to Vancouver, departing Montreal on West Jet at 8:25am, arriving in Vancouver at 10:54am. The returning flight departs Vancouver at 11:27pm on 6/27 and arrives in Montreal at 7:16am on 6/28. We are flying out of Montreal, opposed to Boston, in order to get a good schedule for a good price and to avoid the Covid protocols of crossing the border by plane. Contact Wes about transportation to Montreal on June 17th to spend the night and go to the airport in the morning (extra fee applies). Athletes do have the option of meeting us in Montreal or Vancouver at a similar time to our schedule.

ENTERING CANADA

Athletes need this documentation to cross the boarder:

• Passport

• Proper ArriveCan documentation. Get the App.

• Either proof of double vaccination or a negative PCR Covid Test.

• Letter of permission to travel that reads something (but maybe not exactly) like this:

“I Parent Name give my Child Name permission to travel with Wesley Preston and the Freestyle America Team to Montreal Trudeau Airport to fly to Whister, B.C. and back for a ski trip. The date of entry to Cnada is June 17th, 2022. The date of return to the United States in June 28th, 2022.”

TRAINING OPTIONS

This camp includes training for both Moguls and Slopestyle. Athletes will split each day between bumps and park.

MOGUL COACHING PROGRAM: Camp consists of 2 training rotations of 4 days, each separated by a rest day. The training program includes the technical fundamentals of mogul skiing. A second training focus is aerial skill work, including rotations, off-axis tricks, and qualified inverted jumps. A third training component is competitive tactics, speed, aerial entries and exits. A fourth task is mileage and top to bottom competition quality skiing. Mogul skiers all share the goal of achieving 100 mogul runs throughout the camp.

SLOPESTYLE COACHING PROGRAM: The Freeskiing coaching program occurs on Momentum’s extensive park features venue adjacent to our mogul lane. The Slopestyle curriculum includes air training on a variety of jump features, rail sessions, switch skiing, competition run development, and jump training on two snow-to-air bag jumps.

BOTH (Combined Moguls and Slopestyle): We will split each day with both Moguls and Slopestyle!
